Altamaha Apiaries

I love this building and I always say I am going to stop and take a picture of it. Last weekend on the way to Atlanta, we pulled over and I took a couple of shots. Last spring when we were going to Baxley to pick strawberries, it was covered in beautiful purple wisteria. This picture just doesn't do it justice. I would have loved to have tried their honey...

The Altamaha Apiary, in Gardi, was started by my wife's family around the turn of the century (circa 1903)...it was sold and left the family. The building is currently owned by a close family friend.

As a way of honoring my wife's grandparents, I make point of putting a Christmas wreath on the door during the Christmas Season (sorry, I was late this year).

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

I love this building too. I hope it's never torn down. I stopped enroute to Brunswick and snapped a couple of photos too. Thank you Co A for relating the story behind the building.

I used to live near Madry Springs and was pastor at the Altamaha Baptist Church. Once or twice I preached in Gardi and on many occasions drove past the old apiary. Now I live in New Hampshire. I keep bees as a hobby and think of the building and the area often.
